Counselling

It helps those who experience difficulties in particular areas of their lives to manage better and facilitate self-acceptance. This in turn leads to improvement in the way they function in relationships and in life as a whole.

EMDR

Is a powerful psychological technique, which uses bilateral brain stimulation, such as eye movements or alternating audio input, to reduce various kinds of emotional distress. This distress may have been brought about by disturbing experiences or traumas. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) work's safely, relatively quickly and effectively and is less stressful than some other treatments. It is also one of only two treatments approved by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).

"Regarded as particularly effective in the treatment of traumas, phobias and obsessive compulsive behaviour/thoughts"

EMDR should only be used by qualified therapists who have also received full training in the use of that accords with the standards of the EMDR UK & Ireland Association.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

A form of short term therapy (6-20 weeks) which is structured and directive and in which 'homework' plays a significant role. The therapist and client together examine unwanted thoughts, attitudes and beliefs and the behaviour in response to these. In a collaborative process the client learns to change his/her thinking and, in doing so, moves towards more appropriate and constructive behavioural responses. The success of CBT is very dependent on the active participation of the client both in the sessions and in carrying out agreed ‘homework’.
